A little about me.

A Picture of Me!

I'm a director for the research and evaluation group at Gibson Consulting Group, an Austin-based education research and consulting firm. In my current role, I direct projects, manage quantitative staff, do all sorts of data management, analysis, and reporting work. I work primarily in Stata and use it for all manner of tasks. Some less common things I do in Stata are interacting with APIs, web-scraping, writing documents in LaTeX and Html, and generating a draft list for our company fantasy football league (two time winner!). I enjoy automating reporting and data management tasks that would otherwise be boring and making figures that are informative and look good.

Before Gibson, I spent six years at the University of Pittsburgh working on a Ph.D. in Political Science but ended up stopping after defending my dissertation overview. Even though I did not finish, I gained the skills that set me on my way to where I am now. Before that, I completed a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Political Science at the University of Utah.

In 2019, after living in Austin for three years, I transitioned to full-time remote work from Salt Lake City, where my wife and I grew up. When I'm not working from home, I'm usually working on our home, doing renovations, and adding as many smart devices as I can find and afford. Other than that, I enjoy camping and backpacking, especially at or near one of Utah's national parks. Recently my wife and I have also begun camping in southern Utah during the winter months, no crowds! We also enjoy traveling to various cities, recent places include San Fransisco, Louisville, and Boston. I'm a big fan of podcasts and television shows and will share a long list of suggestions without much prompting.

If you click around a little, you will find some examples of my code and figures I've developed along with my resume. Everything here, except the dashboard, but including this website, was written from Stata (the website using Ben Jann's -webdoc-)
